  • Last Updated 08/05/2013 13:51

Subsequent to the Power outage which occurred on the 23rd of April the Data Centre has released the follwing Hazard Notification about work which is to be performed to prevent a recurrence

Hazard Date: Thursday 9th of May 2013
Window Start: 20:00
Window Finish: 2200

"Electrical work will be carried out on a power distribution board in the Data Centre. During this window, the UPS will be momentarily on battery. Skilled UPS engineers and electrical engineers will be onsite during these works.

Interruption to individual rack power supply is not expected during this window."

This means that the power will be transferred from mains to battery while work is conducted on the Power Distrubution board.

I have been informed that the actual work will take 2 - 3 minutes while the power will be transferred to the UPS batteries

These batteries have a run time of 6-8 minutes so no outage is anticipated

Having said this it is a Hazard notification and should any Dedicated Server, VPS or Cloud clients wish to turn their servers off during the maintenance window then you have that option

We have created a thread in the forums at http://www.fluccscommunity.com.au/showthread.php?3974-Brisbane-Data-Centre-Maintenance-Thursday-9th-of-May-2013 which we will update as we receive notifications

If you have an y genreal questions then please post them thereor if you have a question that relates specifically to your service then please just open a support ticket through your client area at https://clients.fluccs.com.au

Data Centre Maintenance - Sunday 28th April (Resolved) Critical
  • 28/04/2013 04:00 - 08/05/2013 13:57
  • Last Updated 24/04/2013 20:38

The Data Centre in Sydney will be performing a rack migration of the facility where the Bondi server is racked this Sunday 28th April 2013

No action on your part is necessary to complete this process, but the Bondi server will need to be powered down for the duration of the move.

A 2 hour Maintenance Window has been allowed between 4:00am and 6:00am AEST (Sydney Time) for this migration to take place, at which time once complete the server will be brought back online, however we expect the time the server is offline should be less than this.

Should you have any concerns relating to the move please open a ticket in the Client Area and we will be happy to advise.

SQL 2008 Database Maintenance - Sat 20th Apri (Resolved) Critical

Affecting System - SQL 2008 Server

  • 20/04/2013 21:00 - 08/05/2013 13:57
  • Last Updated 17/04/2013 15:17

As part of our ongoing commitment to security and performance we will be upgrading and Migrating the SQL 2008 server to a new platform within our Brisbane Cloud Service

This migration will take place this Saturday Night 20th April from 9pm AEST (Brisbane time)

We are allowing a 12 hour maintenance window between 9pm and 9am the following morning in case there are any delays during the process however the migration is expected to take between 4 and 6 hours

Downtime of databases will occur during this process as the current server will be disconnected to ensure that no data corruption occurs during the transfer process.

This downtime may result in client’s websites, which rely on the database, to also be down.

The new server will be running an updated Microsoft SQL 2008 Database service, ensuring better load controls to prevent any future outages and issues. This platform is the leading hosting system in Australia and will ensure our quality of service to you our client is not only maintained but increased.

The server configuration will have 8 cpu cores and 8Gb ram as opposed to the current servers 2 cpu cores and 2Gb ram, so there will be a dramatic improvement in performance

This migration will mean a re-assignment of IP addresses for access to clients databases’ on the service

The servers main IP will become 118.88.25.22 and its’ name will still be known as sql2008.mywindowsserver.net.au

Usernames and password for clients’ accounts, emails etc will not change! however all clients must check their scripts connection strings to ensure they are accessing via the server name sql2008.mywindowsserver.net.au and not an IP address as IP address connections to the old IP will cease to work

If anyone has any queries or concerns regarding this issue and our approach to this i ask that you please post your queries in this forum discussion at http://www.fluccscommunity.com.au which you can also access by clicking on the Forums link in the Client Area at https://clients.fluccs.com.au

Due to some ongoing intermittent load issues on the server we will be adding in an additional 4Gb or ram to the server to improve performance, while at the same time implementing Cloud Linux on the server.

Cloud Linux will allow us to better control and isolate clients sites that are causing these issues, by limiting the amount of ram and cpu resource they can consume

In order to fit into the data center's maintenance schedule this upgrade will be performed tomorrow night Wednesday 20th February

The Data Centre has scheduled a maintenance window between 7pm and 10pm Brisbane Time to perform this work, however the actual upgrade itself should not take long to complete

As part of the installation process for the new SANS and switches we need to make some corrections and reconfigurations to our existing Dell switches before we can connect the new SAN infrastructure to the cloud.

How will this impact my services?
As our switches are configured in a redundant manner this should cause no interference to services, however as we are correcting some issues within the current configuration there is the potential for brief packet loss while the adjustments are made.

This maintenance will be peformed in the Data Cente by Network Engineers and Angus will be on hand as well so that in the event of any probelms he is ideally placed to resolve any issues that may arise.

I apologse for the late notice on this but we are doign whatever we can to expedite the integration of the new Infrastructure.

How can I monitor progress of the maintenance to ensure my services have been fully restored?
Throughout the progress of this maintenance, we will post updates to the Fluccs Elastic Announcements forum at http://www.fluccscommunity.com.au/forumdisplay.php?109-Fluccs-Elastic-Announcements-and-Discussion Customers are encouraged to refresh the forums page regularly and should subscribe to the forum at http://www.fluccscommunity.com.au/subscription.php?do=addsubscription&f=109 if they have not already done so in order to monitor the progress of the work.

This Saturday 19th May there will be some maintenance carried out in the Data Centre that will affect the Xen 3 Virtual server, and all clients hosted on this server.

This maintenance work requires the physical movement of the Xen 3 server to a new rack location and will require us to shut down your server to do this.

While the move itself should only take a few minutes to complete we are allowing a time frame of 60 minutes starting at around 10:30am Brisbane time

During this time period your server will be shutdown moved and then rebooted and checked to ensure its back online.

This support ticket we have opened will be updated with the status of the maintenance when it begins and once the process has been completed.

If anyone has any queries please let us know

We have identified an issue on the cloud services SAN hardware array's ISCI connector which we believe has been causing the data issues that ave been causing issues for some clients in the past 24 hours

As such we are performing some emergency maintenance tonight at 8pm AEST (Brisbane Time) to correct this issue

We are confident once this is done the read/write issues we have seen should be corrected

In order to do this however all servers need to be shut down prior to 8pm and we will start this process at 7pm so machines will start to go offline from that point onwards.

Once the replacement of the device is done the service will be brought back online and tested, which we believe should take no more than 30 minutes to complete

At that time when we are satisified the error has been corrected we will commence the process of bring servers back online, which again will take around an hour to do so.

Naturally some machines will again go into read only mode and will require a file system check at this point, and this can take quite some time depending on the machine and the amount of files, size od the disks etc to complete.

We will however monitor all machines actively and check o ensure they are booting correctly at this time.

If anyone has any queries please post them in this forum discussion at http://www.fluccscommunity.com.au/showthread.php?3698-Brisbane-Cloud-Emergency-Maintenance-8pm-Tonight-24-4-2012 and we will respond and update as we are able to, during this very busy period.

Tonight at 9pm AEST (Brisbane Time) we will be performing a switch over on the routing back to the primary network connections, via the secondary Cloud Network Router

This will allow us to facilitate some maintenance tests and debugging on the primary router while ensuring that full network connectivity is kept in place.

The work involved will take around 15 minutes to perform

During this period there may be some connectivity issues for some clients while upstream providers pick up the new BGP sessions and routing changes. This generally only takes a few minutes but we are allowing up to 15 minutes for this to occur incase there are any delays.

Once the change is made full connectivity should be restored

Tomorrow night (Friday night) at 9pm AEST again we will then schedule to revert back to the primary network and router once the testing and any corrections or replacements have been carried out on the network to correct any issues we find after the switch over tonight

As we continue to troubleshoot the problem that has been causing reduced speeds on our Cloud today we are to transition from our Primary to our Backup network

The reason for this is to either identify or eliminate our Primary upstream connection as the cause of the problem

This will involve a short period or network interruption as ISPs identify there is now a new path for them to follow to the Cloud

The length of this lag in connectivity will vary from ISP to ISP but experience tells us it will be between 5 and 15 minutes

We will be performing the switchover at 3:15pm Brisbane time

If you have any queries please post them in the forums at http://www.fluccscommunity.com.au/showthread.php?3690-Brisbane-connectivity-issues&p=10083.

There was a DDOS attack against one of our upstream providers overnight which caused network connectivity issues for most users between the hours of 2:30am and 4:30am Brisbane time.

Details on the outage were posted at http://www.fluccscommunity.com.au/showthread.php?3635-Brisbane-Data-Centre-Connectivity-Issue

It appears a security vulnerability in a hosting control system that we do not use ourselves was the cause of the issue however we are waiting for a full report from the provider in the morning.

At no time was there any security issue within our own networks

Brisbane Network Maintenance [23/12/2011]

Date: Thursday, December 23, 2011
Start Time: 23:00 AEDT (Brisbane Time)
End Time: 23:30 AEDT (Brisbane Time)
Services affected: All Brisbane services and the Fluccs Client Area and website.
Location: Brisbane Datacentre

What Work is Being Performed:
Upstream Providers are performing an upgrade to the network capacity.

Why This Work is Being Performed:
This work is required to support continued growth within the datacentre by increasing the capacity of transit into the datacentre from major upstream providers.

How will this impact my services?
We expect the maintenance to cause a brief interruption to all services in Brisbane, including the Client Area, all servers and the Fluccs Cloud services. The estimated time of outage is around 5 minutes while the sessions are dropped and reconnected, and BGP routing reconverged on the net ports, however while we expect the outage to only be 5 minutes at most we have scheduled a windows of around 30 minutes incase there are any issues or delays in the work.

How can I monitor progress of the maintenance to ensure my services have been fully restored?
Throughout the progress of this maintenance, we will post updates to the Brisbane Network Announcements forum at http://www.fluccscommunity.com.au/showthread.php?3588-Brisbane-Network-Maintenance-Fri-23-12-2011-11pm-AEST Customers are encouraged to refresh the forums page regularly and should subscribe to the Brisbane Network Announcements forum at http://www.fluccscommunity.com.au/subscription.php?do=addsubscription&f=61 if they have not already done so in order to monitor the progress of the work.

Fluccs Elastic Cloud Maintenance [08/12/2011]
Date: Thursday, December 8, 2011
Start Time: 18:00 AEDT (Brisbane Time)
End Time: 21:00 AEDT (Brisbane Time)
Services affected: Fluccs Elastic Cloud Service
Location: Brisbane Datacentre
Duration: 3 hours
Expected Downtime - None

What Work is Being Performed:
Updating the routers' operating systems and tweaking their settings in order to improve routing performance on the Fluccs Elastic Cloud Network

Why This Work is Being Performed:
This work forms part of the regular software/operating system upgrades for our Routers. While performing these upgrades we are also taking the opportunity to tweak someof the settings with a view to increasing throughput speeds

How will this impact my services?
As we have a redundant router set-up no downtime should be experienced. However, when switching between the routers there might be a short period (30 - 60 seconds) of slow traffic speed or, worst case scenario, 1-2 minutes lack of connectivity to the external network while the routing tables update.
Clients may also see latency and/or packet loss as routes are adjusted during the process.

The cloud itself will not be affected in any way during this maintenance

How can I monitor progress of the maintenance to ensure my services have been fully restored?

I am afraid a client on the Bondi server has allowed a spammer to access an insecurity in his website and this has caused the servers main IP to become listed on the SpamHaus block list.

The offending clients site and account have been suspended.

We have contacted SpamHaus immediately and requested a delisting, which should be acted on within 24 hours, and the IP range delisted, which should then resolve any issues clients may have in sending mail from their accounts.

Issues like this re-enforce the requirement that all clients keep their scripts secure and uptodate on their accounts so as to help ensure hackers and spammers do not gain access to the server.

Apologies on any inconvenience caused

When and Where is This Maintenance:

Fluccs Elastic Cloud Maintenance [26/11/2011]
Date: Saturday, November 26, 2011
Start Time: 11:00 AEDT (Brisbane Time)
End Time: 15:00 AEDT (Brisbane Time)
Services affected: Fluccs Elastic Cloud Service
Location: Brisbane Datacentre
Duration: 4 hours

What Work is Being Performed:
Implementation of IPv6 support on the Fluccs Elastic Cloud Network.

Why This Work is Being Performed:
As most people already knows the IPv4 IP Address pool is almost exhausted and providers are currently implementing the new IPv6 IP Address system. We are adding IPv6 support to the cloud service in preparation for the impending exhaustion of IPv4 and to offer IPv6 to clients who may already wish to utilise the new service.

How will this impact my services?
In order to implement IPv6 support all routers, switches and servers within the Fluccs Elastic Cloud Network will require a reboot which will cause brief interruptions to service. Clients may also see latency and/or packet loss as routes are adjusted during the process. We have scheduled this work to occur at the same time as previously announced Maintenance within the Data Centre is being carried out, as reported at http://www.fluccscommunity.com.au/showthread.php?3559-Brisbane-Network-Maintenance-Sat-26-11-2011 to lessen the impact of disruption to clients.

How can I monitor progress of the maintenance to ensure my services have been fully restored?

Services affected: All Brisbane Shared, VPS, Dedicated, Fluccs Elastic Cloud Service and the Fluccs Client Area and website.
Location: Brisbane Datacentre
Duration: 5 hours

What Work is Being Performed:
We will be conducting a series of tests to make sure that the automatic network failover in case of hardware failure and the failover between upstream ISPs is working correctly.

Why This Work is Being Performed:
This work is required to support continued growth within the network and to improve network performance and uptime.

How will this impact my services?
We expect to only see brief interruptions to service during this maintenance, however customers may experience higher latency and/or packet loss while routes re converge each time a test is performed. Customers may also see latency and/or packet loss as routes are adjusted during the tests and process.

How can I monitor progress of the maintenance to ensure my services have been fully restored?
Throughout the progress of this maintenance, we will post updates to the Brisbane Network Announcements forum at http://www.fluccscommunity.com.au/showthread.php?3559-Failover-network-testing-maintenance Customers are encouraged to refresh the forums page regularly and should subscribe to the Brisbane Network Announcements forum at http://www.fluccscommunity.com.au/subscription.php?do=addsubscription&f=61 if they have not already done so in order to monitor the progress of the work.

Brisbane Routing Issues (Resolved) Critical

Affecting Other - Brisbane Networks

  • 08/10/2011 15:24
  • Last Updated 08/10/2011 17:32

There is currently some upstream routing issues into the Brisbane data centre affecting both networks

We understand one of the upstream providers has made an unscheduled emergency replacement of one of their core routers and this has affected BGP routing sessions on some routes into the data centre

we are waiting for an update on their status currently.

Update 08/10/2011 15:48

We have been in touch with upstream provider techs and the issue is outside of the Data Centre and is affecting all ISP's who route into Brisbane thru Vocus

Unfortunately we do not have any information on the issue from them and as its outside of the Data Centre we are unable to get any specific information from them on the issue

My own Bigpond connection from Victoria for example has had no issues routing into and out of the datacentre thru this event

Update 08/10/2011 18:32

From all tests we have done in the last hour it appears Vocus has corrected their network issues so the issue they were having appears to be resolved.

The Olgas Server Migration - 10th September 9 (Resolved) Critical
  • 10/09/2011 21:00 - 11/09/2011 17:41
  • Last Updated 10/09/2011 22:45

As most of you are aware we have had some load issues on the hardware that The Olgas server is running on. This is mainly due to the server starting to age, and increased loads and resource usage by clients.

In light of this we are going to take a proactive approach to this and will be doing an upgrade and migration of The Olgas server to our High Availability Cloud service in Brisbane.

This migration will take place this Saturday Night 10th September from 9pm AEST (Brisbane time)

The new server will be running the latest Cloud Linux Operating System and the latest version of cPanel, ensuring better load controls to prevent any future outages and issues.

The server configuration will have 8 cpu cores and 8Gb ram as opposed to the current servers 2 cpu cores and 4Gb ram, so there will be a dramatic improvement in performance

Apache and PHP versions will however remain as they are now with the same configurations to ensure compatibility with clients existing sites.

Having said that however clients do need to ensure that sites are uptodate with latest versions of scripts to ensure security and compatibility in the future

Unfortnately this migration will mean a re-assignment of IP addresses for clients websites and a change to the main IP and nameserver of the server.

The servers main IP will become 118.88.27.60

The redundant dns service will ensure there is no downtime during the process, however any clients not using our nameservers or those using remote dns services will need to adjust their A records to point to the new server IP 118.88.27.60

If anyone has any queries or concerns regarding this issue and our approach to this i ask that you please post your queries in this forum discussion at http://community.fluccs.com.au which you can also access by clicking on the Forums link in the Client Area at https://clients.fluccs.com.au

Uluru Server Outage (Resolved) Critical
  • 12/06/2011 10:06
  • Last Updated 12/06/2011 14:25

An outage has occured on the Uluru server overnight due to a redundant power supply failure within the datacentre.

I apologise for the delay in updating everyone, i will be addressing this with the staff that were on overnight as this was unacceptable so i do apologise.

Im still waiting on a complete update as to the exact specifics of what has occurred but so far i can give some information based on what i have been updated with so far.

Last night there was some scheduled maintenance in the datacentre affecting once of the racks where an APC power rail was being moved physically within the rack and re-organised to better utilise the power rail for servers within the rack.

The cloud service and several other servers including our VPS servers all run from within the rack and have dual power supplies, so in the event of a power failure in a server or on the power rail or power feed the secondary power rail and its feed carries on supplying power to the servers and switches so that no downtime is involved if the first power supply setup has issues or is taken offline

Unfortunately what has happened, and we are unsure as to why, the second power rail within this particular rack shorted and blew its fuse, and in doing so took power offline to the entire cloud system when the primary supply was shut off for the maintenance

Claudiu quickly saw what had happened and immediately addressed the power issue and all hardware was back online around 11:30pm

Unfortunately what has happened on the cloud service however is because all power was suddenly lost to the SAN's the Hyper-visors, control servers and switches etc it took some time to correct some log issues on the cloud control server caused by the sudden shutdown. This was corrected and the same is being carried out on the SAS SAN's which store the majority of the live server data for Uluru and other servers on the cloud

These SAN's are over 40Tb in size so unfortunately it is taking some time to get them back up and running

As soon as i have more information i will ensure that everyone is updated further.

Xen 3 Server - Emergency Uluru Migration (Resolved) Critical
  • 01/06/2011 19:34 - 07/06/2011 18:36
  • Last Updated 01/06/2011 20:06

We have dentified a serious underlying hardware problem on the Xen3 platform that Uluru server is running on.

In light of this we are going to take a proactive approach to this and will be doing an emergency migration of the Uluru server to our High Availability Cloud service in Brisbane.

We had planned to move Uluru to the cloud soon as part of our service enahncements but we felt that given the potential for a complete failure on the Xen3 server hardware that this proactive approach will be in everyones best interest.

The new server will be running the latest Cloud Linux Operating System and the latest version of cPanel

Unfortnately this migration will mean a re-assignment of IP addresses for clients websites and resellers ns1 nameserver IP's as well.

The redundant dns service will ensure there is no downtime during the process, however any clients not using our nameservers or those using remote dns services will need to adjust their A records to point to the new server IP's.

I will provide all clients and resellers details of the new IP's etc as soon as we have completed the preparation of the service.

We are preparing the new server ready for migration currently and will hopefully have everything ready for transfer in a couple of hours.

If anyone has any queries or concerns regarding this issue and our approach to this i ask that you please post your queries in the Community Forums at http://community.fluccs.com.au/showthread.php?3434-EMERGENCY-Maintenance-Uluru-Hardware-Migration  which you can also access by clicking on the Forums link in the Client Area at https://clients.fluccs.com.au

Thankyou for your patience thru this difficult event, and we look forward to providng you an extremely enhanced and vastly more reliable service once this work is completed.

The Daintree server has again gone offline and we believe this is being caused by a hardware issue so Angus is currently organizing to swap the server over into new hardware

We had swapped the drives out from the current hardware to a replacement server but it appears the issue may be related directly to the primary hard drive

Angus is now preparing new drives in a chassis so we will need to do a server to server migration which may take several hours to complete

As soon as we have more information i will update everyone via the forums at http://forums.webhostsaustralia.com.au/showthread.php?3410-Server-Outage-Migration-to-new-hardware
