This guide shows you how to upload your cPanel backup file to Microsoft OneDrive and then share a link with us so we can download it.
- Time required: 5–10 minutes
- Skill level: Beginner (no experience needed)
Step 1 – Make sure you have your backup file ready
Your backup file is usually a large file and may look like one of these:
backup-YYYY-MM-DD.tar.gzusername.tar.gzcpmove-username.tar.gz
Important: Make sure you know where the file is saved on your computer (for example: Downloads or Desktop).
Step 2 – Open OneDrive in your web browser
- Open Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Firefox.
- Go to: https://onedrive.live.com
- Sign in with your Microsoft / Outlook / Hotmail email address.
Once logged in, you should see your OneDrive files page.
Step 3 – Upload your backup file to OneDrive
- Click the Upload button at the top.
- Select Files.
- Browse to where your backup file is saved.
- Click the backup file once, then click Open.
Please wait until the upload finishes. This may take several minutes depending on file size and your internet speed.
When complete, you will see the file appear in your OneDrive.
Step 4 – Share the file with us
- Right-click on the uploaded backup file (or click the three dots next to it).
- Click Share.
- In the sharing window:
- Click “Anyone with the link can view” (or similar wording).
- Make sure it is set to View (not Edit).
- Click Copy link, then click Done.
The link is now copied to your clipboard.
Step 5 – Send us the link
- Open your email or support ticket with us.
- Paste the OneDrive link into your message.
- Send it to us.
That’s it — we can now securely download your backup.
Important Notes
- Do not delete the file from OneDrive until we confirm it has been downloaded.
- The link normally only gives access to the shared file, not your entire OneDrive.
- If the upload fails, try again, or reply and tell us which step you are stuck on.
