  • 0

This guide shows you how to upload your cPanel backup file to Google Drive and then share a link with us so we can download it.

  • Time required: 5–10 minutes
  • Skill level: Beginner (no experience needed)

Step 1 – Make sure you have your backup file ready

Your backup file is usually a large file and may look like one of these:

  • backup-YYYY-MM-DD.tar.gz
  • username.tar.gz
  • cpmove-username.tar.gz

Important: Make sure you know where the file is saved on your computer (for example: Downloads or Desktop).

Step 2 – Open Google Drive in your web browser

  1. Open Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Firefox.
  2. Go to: https://drive.google.com
  3. Sign in with your Google (Gmail) account.

Once logged in, you should see your Google Drive files page.

Step 3 – Upload your backup file to Google Drive

  1. Click the + New button on the left.
  2. Click File upload.
  3. Browse to where your backup file is saved.
  4. Click the backup file once, then click Open.

Please wait until the upload finishes. You may see a progress bar in the bottom-right corner.

When complete, the file will appear in your Google Drive file list.

Step 4 – Share the file with us

  1. Find the uploaded backup file in Google Drive.
  2. Right-click the file, then click Share.
  3. In the Share window, look for General access.
  4. Change it from Restricted to Anyone with the link.
  5. Make sure the access level is set to Viewer (not Editor).
  6. Click Copy link.
  7. Click Done.

The link is now copied to your clipboard.

Step 5 – Send us the link

  1. Open your email or support ticket with us.
  2. Paste the Google Drive link into your message.
  3. Send it to us.

That’s it — we can now securely download your backup.

Important Notes

  • Do not delete the file from Google Drive until we confirm it has been downloaded.
  • If you leave sharing as Restricted, we will not be able to access the file.
  • If the upload fails, try again, or reply and tell us which step you are stuck on.
