This guide explains how to update the saved password for an email account in the Microsoft Outlook app on an Android mobile device.
This is commonly required after your email password has been changed in your hosting control panel, cPanel, or webmail service.
When Outlook asks for the new password
In many cases, Outlook will automatically detect that the saved password no longer works and will ask you to sign in again.
- Open the Outlook app on your Android device.
- Tap your profile icon in the top left corner.
- Look for an account warning, error message, or Needs Attention notice.
- Tap the affected email account.
- Enter your new email password.
- Tap Sign In or Save.
If Outlook does not ask for the new password
For IMAP email accounts, Outlook may not provide a simple option to directly edit the saved password. In this case, the recommended option is to remove the email account from Outlook and then add it again using the new password.
Remove the existing account
- Open the Outlook app.
- Tap your profile icon in the top left corner.
- Tap the Settings gear icon.
- Select the affected email account.
- Scroll down and tap Delete Account.
- Confirm that you want to remove the account from the Outlook app.
Note: Removing the account from Outlook only removes it from the mobile app. It does not delete the mailbox from the server.
Add the account again
- In Outlook, tap Add Email Account.
- Enter your email address.
- If prompted, choose IMAP.
- Enter your new email password.
- Enter the incoming and outgoing mail server settings if required.
- Tap Sign In, Next, or Save.
Typical IMAP settings
If you are using a standard cPanel-hosted mailbox, the settings are usually similar to the following:
| Incoming Server | mail.yourdomain.com |
| Incoming Port | 993 |
| Incoming Security | SSL/TLS |
| Outgoing Server | mail.yourdomain.com |
| Outgoing Port | 465 |
| Outgoing Security | SSL/TLS |
| Username | Your full email address |
Replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name.
Where to find the correct server settings
If your email is hosted through cPanel, you can find the correct settings from within cPanel:
- Log in to cPanel.
- Go to Email Accounts.
- Find the affected mailbox.
- Click Connect Devices.
- Use the listed secure IMAP and SMTP settings in Outlook.
If the password is still rejected
If Outlook does not accept the new password, check the following:
- Make sure the new password works by logging in to webmail first.
- Make sure the username is the full email address.
- Check that the incoming and outgoing mail servers are correct.
- Check that SSL/TLS is enabled.
- Remove and re-add the account if Outlook continues using the old password.
