How to Download Files and Folders to Your Computer Using WinSCP Print

Follow these simple steps to download files and folders from a remote server to your local computer using WinSCP.

Step 1: Open WinSCP

Launch the WinSCP application on your computer and log in to the remote FTP server or cloud storage service where your files are located.

Step 2: Navigate to the Files or Folders You Want to Download

In the right panel (remote server), navigate to the directory that contains the files or folders you want to download. You can use the directory tree or the address bar to quickly find the folder you're looking for.

Step 3: Select the Files or Folders to Download

Click to select the file(s) or folder(s) you want to download:

  1. For single files, simply click on the file you want to download.
  2. For multiple files, hold down the Ctrl key (Windows) or Command key (Mac) and click on each file you want to select.
  3. For an entire folder, click on the folder to select it. You can also select multiple folders by holding down the Ctrl or Command key and clicking each folder.

Step 4: Download the Files or Folders

Once you've selected the file(s) or folder(s) to download:

  1. Drag and drop: Simply drag the selected file(s) or folder(s) from the right (remote) panel to the left (local) panel. Release the files in the desired local folder on your computer.
  2. Right-click and choose "Download": Alternatively, right-click on the selected file(s) or folder(s) and choose Download from the context menu. WinSCP will download the files to the folder shown in the left (local) panel.

Step 5: Wait for the Transfer to Complete

WinSCP will begin downloading the files and show the progress in the lower part of the window. Once the download is complete, the files will appear in the folder you selected in the left panel (local computer).

Step 6: Access Your Downloaded Files

After the transfer completes, you can access the downloaded files or folders directly from your local computer. Open the folder you chose in the left panel to find the downloaded content.

Important Notes:

  • If you are downloading a large folder, it may take some time depending on your internet speed and the folder size.
  • Make sure you have sufficient disk space on your local computer for the downloaded files.
